As part of a monthly series that profiles a wide variety of jobs at Cox Automotive Canada, we sat down with Grace Opaleye, Business Delivery Manager, Dealer.com.
Before joining the team, what aspect of working at Cox Automotive Canada (CAC) most appealed to you?
I first joined the organization with Dealertrack. My interest was based on my love of automobiles and I was intrigued to learn more about the car business. I have been privileged to expand my learnings at Cox Automotive, not only at the Lender level but also the Dealer level as well. Cox has provided me with the opportunity to contribute in various roles and learn within some of the most important aspects of the Automotive industry.
Has the reality of your role at CAC met the expectations you had before joining the team?
Oh wow! My expectation has definitely been exceeded because I never expected to be provided with the opportunity of gaining the depth of knowledge I now have about the Automotive business.
At a very high level, can you describe the role you play at CAC?
As a Business Deliver Manager, I am responsible for independently leading the planning, monitoring, and successful completion of day-to-day activities, from small to mid-sized projects, within the overall portfolio of my business unit. I have the privilege of working with different stakeholders starting from the Client to the Development teams, working to actualize the product to be delivered.
What do you like most about your job?
I love that I can work with different partners every day and my job does not become redundant because there is always something different to learn or do.
How does your work benefit CAC clients/customers?
The DDC Website is a great platform which helps dealers get the traffic they need to achieve their goals of selling cars. I help actualize this goal by working with a team of experts to deliver top notch websites and fully-integrated products.
Since joining CAC, have you had opportunities to expand your skill set and grow your career through any training, experiences, or new roles?
I have had the opportunity to grow my career in the six years at Cox Automotive through a couple of roles within different departments and businesses in the organization. I love the company because I have been provided with many opportunities to grow my skills through many different avenues!
What skills do you find that you are bringing to your current role that you hadn’t thought you would use (until now)?
I have always prided myself on great communication and inter-personal skills, which comes in very handy when creating and maintaining a comfortable working relationship with my clients, as well as with the different teams I work with.
What makes you feel that the work you do at CAC contributes to the company’s overall success?
I am aware and very proud to know that my effort, and that of my DDC team, is recognized and appreciated by the organization. DDC created many new partnerships within the industry last year and we continue to work on greater initiatives and programs all the time.
How does CAC inspire you to go above and beyond the call of duty?
The leadership team at Cox Automotive makes it their priority to provide a welcoming and positive working environment for everyone. This gives me the delight and encouragement to go above and beyond in my daily work and look for opportunities that will ensure our brand remains competitive.
Do you feel that CAC provides you with opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and support your community outside of specific work tasks?
Yes of course! I can volunteer at my local church every year at the youth summer camp because of the gracious gift Cox Automotive provides to me, in form of the paid volunteer hours we are encouraged to use.
What accomplishments are you most proud of to date?
I am most proud of my growth and contributions at Cox Automotive and I am very grateful to my leaders over the years who have recognized and rewarded my efforts.
What advice would you give a new CAC team member?
Come ready to learn, ask questions, inspire and be inspired and accept feedback – the sky is the limit!
