Career Spotlight: Justin Spudic

“What I liked most about my role within CAC was the fact that I got the opportunity to work on a project that is meaningful and will be used for the foreseeable future.”

As part of a monthly series that profiles a wide variety of jobs at Cox Automotive Canada, we sat down with Justin Spudic, Associate Software Engineer, MUVIT Marketplace.

At a very high level, can you describe the role you play at CAC?

During my time at CAC, I have been working as an associate software engineer with my main focus being supporting the development of the automation framework needed for MUVIT Marketplace.

What do you like most about your role and the team you have worked with?

What I liked most about my role within CAC was the fact that I got the opportunity to work on a project that is meaningful and will be used for the foreseeable future. I have also enjoyed the experience of working on a team with so many talented individuals who have shown me many practical lessons that I will continue to use for the rest of my career.

Do you think this co-op opportunity has been helpful to you in your educational growth?

During my co-op experience here at CAC, I was exposed to many real-world business situations that cannot be taught in the classroom. The work experience that I have gained during just this co-op term is invaluable and will continue to help me in the future whether it be in the classroom or in the workplace.

What were the top things you have learned thus far in your co-op term?

In addition to learning new programming languages or refining the ones already had experience with, the top things I have learned from this job are strong time management abilities, organization, as well as the valuable experience of learning how to work with a team efficiently even if we are unable to meet in person.

What skills do you feel you have enhanced or developed during your co-op term?

During my co-op I feel that I developed a wide variety of skills that will help me succeed in the future. The main skills I feel I have enhanced are my coding abilities, time management and working within a team.

In 1-3 words, how would you describe working at CAC?

Exciting, educational, positive.

Will you consider returning next year?

I would love to work with CAC again during my next co-op term.

Why should other students consider joining CAC for co-op?

I think that other students should consider joining CAC for many reasons; the workplace dynamic is amazing and everyone who you work with is friendly and helpful. The work that you are doing can be stimulating as well as enjoyable, and the company has shown that they care for all their employees including co-op students like myself time and time again.

Anything else you would like to say?

I would just like to say thank you to everyone on the “Autobots” team as well as the Automation team for all the help and lessons. Thanks to CAC for this opportunity and I look forward to working with you again in the future.
