Cox Automotive Canada Reaches Out to Canadian Communities with Back to School Giving Campaign

Mississauga, Ont.—September 6, 2018—With the start of the 2018 back to school season, Cox Automotive Canada officially wrapped up its first annual company-wide school supply drive in partnership with multiple Canadian not-for-profit organizations. This year’s Ready … Set … School! campaign aimed to ensure Canadian children in need were set up for success in time for the new school year.

“Education is a pivotal component when it comes to breaking the cycle of poverty,” said Maria Soklis, President of Cox Automotive Canada. “When children return to school feeling prepared and confident, they are excited to learn, and this initiative gave our team an opportunity to positively impact the lives of Canadian children in need.”

For low-income families, the back to school season can pose a real challenge; a tight budget often means sacrificing food in order to purchase school supplies. The price children pay for their families’ financial situation can undermine their education by destabilizing their self-esteem and confidence, while also creating personal and emotional issues that will negatively impact their performance in school.

Cox Automotive Canada’s Ready … Set … School! initiative not only maximized the creation of shared values for staff, it also allowed each team member to focus on the importance of putting the greater good before their own.

“We’ve witnessed a lot of compassion and dedication during our corporate social responsibility initiatives,” said Grace Kong, Vice President, Human Resources, Cox Automotive Canada. “This time around, our goal was to collect back to school donations and then gather together to assemble backpacks. We hadn’t realized just how many team members would feel so generously compelled to take part.”

Last month, NextGear Capital, one of Cox Automotive Canada’s 10 brands, held a successful back to school CSR campaign that successfully partnered with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Peel, a not-for-profit, charitable organization that engages at-risk children, youth, and families from low-income communities. In Quebec, Cox Automotive Canada‘s Manheim Montreal team held Vision Réussite, a CSR initiative that saw staff contribute time and donations to La Commission Scolaire des Milles Îles (CSSMI).

Corporate social responsibility ultimately provides a win-win situation for every business. Not only does CSR appeal to socially conscious clients and team members, it also makes a marked difference in the world. And for the Cox Automotive Canada team, giving back initiatives – and the kindness attached to them – is something that is catching fire.
